One Denny Triangle neighborhood organization is tackling homelessness through personal empowerment and community spirit. FareStart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. In January 2007, FareStart moved from Belltown to the Denny Triangle neighborhood into a newly renovated facility with the capacity to double the number of homeless individuals served over the next five years.
The FareStart Restaurant serves lunch Monday through Friday, with delicious entrées, sandwiches, salads, American favorites and vegetarian options. Each Thursday, at Guest Chef Night , premier chefs work with students to prepare a three-course gourmet meal for the public. FareStart Catering provides services in FareStart’s beautiful facility, including multi-course dinners, cocktail parties, and business lunches. FareStart also earns revenue by delivering meals to childcare centers and homeless shelters. These businesses provide excellent training opportunities for the students who gain the skills required to succeed in a working retail kitchen.
